Mr. Jay Grasso,Math & Science Grades 4-6
Jay Grasso graduated from the University of Lowell with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1980. He worked in high-tech as a programmer at MITRE Corporation for several years after graduation. Then worked at Raytheon on the Patriot System as a Technical Writer and Software Engineer. He became a Math Teacher in 2001 and received my Masters of Math Education in 2006 from UMass Lowell. Taught High School Math and Science for 6 years at Whittier Vocational Technical High School and then worked at Pearson Education in Boston as a Math and Science Editor and Writer. He has continued as a Freelance Math and Science Editor and Writer for companies such as McGraw Hill, Western Governor's University, Course Hero, Chegg Videos and Tutoring, the Tennesee Department of Education, and presently Six Red Marbles. He was a Math Intervention Teacher/Tutor at Nettles Middle School in Haverhill from 2016 to 2018 before joining the Hellenic American Academy.
He has been on the Leadership team the past 10 years for HOPE Worldwide's Hoops for HOPE/Play For A Purpose fundraiser to support Cambodian Hospitals in need. Players play for 24 hours straight at UMass Lowell's Costello Gym annually to raise money and awareness for HOPE Worldwide's hospitals in Cambodia. He visited the hospitals in Cambodia to inspire over 50 players that play 24 hours each year. He has helped Hoops for HOPE build partnerships with Lowell's Mayor and Councilors, Lowell General Hospital, the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association, the Cambodian USA Basketball Team and UMass Lowell.
